Patrick Abbott earned B.S. and M.S. degrees in Physics from Indiana University of Pennsylvania and the Pennsylvania State University, respectively. He joined NIST in 1992 as a member of the Pressure and Vacuum Group where he was responsible for the dissemination of the unit of pressure in the range of 10-1 Pa to 10-7 Pa. He joined the Mass and Force Group in 2007 to work on the vacuum-to-air transfer of the Planck-constant-based kilogram that will be adopted into the SI in 2018. Patrick has been involved in providing mass metrology support to the NIST-4 Kibble balance that will be used to realize the kilogram in the Revised SI. He currently serves as the Measurement Service Leader for Mass.
