2026 MSC Training Symposium
Garden Grove, California | February 2-5, 2026
I have exhibited at the Measurement Science Conference (MSC) for more than twenty years. Over the years, I have built a network of professionals, colleagues, and friends. I have relied on this network’s knowledge, and when I had a question, I could pick up the phone or send an e-mail and get the answer.
Today, my network is shrinking as these people retire or move on to other careers. Talking with my colleagues, I found this is not an isolated problem. It is industry-wide! Every lab I speak with will lose around 50% of its most knowledgeable technicians in the next five years.
We, as an industry, need to double down on training. We must pass down as much knowledge as possible to the next generation of calibration engineers and technicians.
As next year’s President, I want to make our focus on Training. We must educate ourselves, our leaders, and our peers because knowledge leads to better measurements, improved quality, and greater profits.
The Measurement Science Conference has always focused on training. We offer NIST Training Seminars, Tutorials, Technical Presentations, and Education Scholarships every year. Thousands of engineers, technicians, and metrologists have received part of their training here.
For 2026, we are going “Back to Basics” by adding six entry-level, full-day classes. MSC already has great intermediate and advanced training, but next year we will offer more training geared towards technicians who have never worked in a specific discipline.
We are also moving the event to the Hyatt Regency Hotel in Garden Grove. This will lower the hotel cost, allowing companies to increase the number of staff they send to training without impacting their budget.
